Privacy policy and terms of use

This is a translation of the Latvian original. In case of any discrepancy, the Latvian version prevails.

These terms of use and privacy policy (together — the “Terms”) govern the use of the “Huntgate” mobile app (the “App”) and the huntgate.app website. The App is developed by SIA “Datu Sistēmas” (“Datu Sistēmas”, “we”). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

Data controller

The controller responsible for processing your personal data is:

Service

Huntgate is a nature monitoring solution. The App is designed for trail cameras that send captured images to registered Huntgate email inboxes. The App receives and organises the images, helps you sort them by the animal shown and builds statistics and activity forecasts from the sorted data.

You can create an account and sign in with a phone number confirmed by a one-time SMS code, with Sign in with Apple, or with a Google account.

Weather at the camera's location is added to each image: temperature, wind direction and speed, moon phase, air pressure and other indicators.

Data processing

To provide the App, we process the following data:

• First and last name — entered at registration or received from Sign in with Apple / Google.
• Email address.
• Phone number.
• Account identifier.
• Device location (GPS) — only while the App is open and you have granted permission on your device. We use it to place a camera on the map and to show the forecast for your current location (coordinates sent to the server are rounded to ~100 m). Location is not tracked in the background.
• Camera locations — coordinates that you specify.
• Trail camera images that your cameras send to your Huntgate email inboxes.
• Sorting data — the animal indicated in each image by you or (when highly confident) by the AI.
• Weather data attached to images.
• Camera maintenance log — maintenance entries and comments.
• Push notification identifier — to send notifications about new images.
• User preferences and settings.

Artificial intelligence (AI)

Incoming images are automatically analysed by the Huntgate AI model — it recognises the animal species, or that there is no mammal in the frame. When the AI is highly confident, it sorts the image itself and marks it with an AI badge and a probability percentage; for other images it shows a suggestion with a probability. The user can re-sort any image — the user's sorting always prevails, and the AI never overrides it.

Unsorted images in which the AI has found neither a mammal nor a person are automatically deleted by the App after 7 days.

We use images received in the App and users' sorting to train and improve the Huntgate AI model. Training takes place on cloud infrastructure managed by us in the European Union. Images are not passed to third parties for their own purposes and are not used for advertising.

The AI does not perform facial recognition or identify persons — the “person” category only means that a person is in the frame.

Legal basis for processing

We process personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) on the basis of:

• performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) — account, cameras, images, sorting, forecast and sharing;
• legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — improving the AI model, security and operation of the service;
• consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) — location permission on your device, push notifications and website cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device or website settings.

Service providers and data storage

We use the following service providers to run the App. Each receives only the data needed for the stated purpose.

Visual Crossing and the push notification delivery providers (Expo, Apple, Google) are located in the USA, so data may be transferred outside the European Union / European Economic Area (EU/EEA). Such transfers are based on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. Open-Meteo is located in Switzerland, a country for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision.

Retention periods

• Account data — for as long as the account is active.
• When you delete your profile, the account, cameras, camera email inboxes and images are deleted immediately.
• Unsorted images in which the AI has found neither a mammal nor a person — automatically after 7 days.
• AI training data — see the sections “Artificial intelligence (AI)” and “Data and profile deletion”.

Cookies and analytics (website)

On huntgate.app we use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to understand, anonymously and in aggregate, how visitors use the site (e.g. sections visited, device type) and to improve it. Cookies and similar technologies are used for this purpose.

We use Google Consent Mode (v2): analytics cookies and data collection are activated only after your explicit consent. When you open the site, a notice is shown where you can accept or reject. Until you have consented, analytics runs without cookies or is not used at all.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by opening “Cookie settings” in the site footer. We store the consent choice in a technical cookie hg_consent. Advertising and personalisation cookies are not used. More about how Google processes data: policies.google.com/privacy.

Data sharing

SIA “Datu Sistēmas” does not share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes without your explicit consent. Data may be passed to the service providers listed in “Service providers and data storage” for operational needs under strict data protection conditions.

Sharing feature

Users can share their registered trail cameras with trusted users by providing their email address or phone number. Shared users can sort those cameras' images and access both basic and extended statistics.

Data and profile deletion

• Data deletion: In the App you can delete individual images, as well as your trail cameras with all associated information.
• Profile deletion: In the App (Profile → Delete profile) you can delete your entire profile, which also deletes all data and settings.

When you delete an image, a camera or your profile, the data is immediately deleted from the App and our main data storage. Images may be kept in the AI training dataset. It does not store the user's name, contact details or account identifier — only a technical camera number, camera coordinates and weather. After the camera or profile is deleted, they can no longer be linked to the user. If you would like your images to be removed from the training dataset as well, write to info@dsistemas.lv.

User rights

You have the right to request access to your data, its rectification or erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can correct or delete your data in the App or by writing to info@dsistemas.lv.

If you believe your personal data is being processed unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data State Inspectorate of Latvia (Datu valsts inspekcija): www.dvi.gov.lv.

Children

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13.

Availability and fees

The App is available for Apple iOS and Google Android devices. The App is free. It offers no purchases or subscriptions. We reserve the right to change the functionality available for free and to introduce fees for individual features, informing users in advance.
